City of Belleville’s Schuetz Container Systems Inc. Hosts Ontario’s Largest Rooftop Solar Installation

Through a mid-project pivot made possible by collaboration by Schuetz Container Systems Inc., Ecogrid Renewables, Otter Energy, and the local utilities, Ontario’s largest (1.58MW) solar project in Belleville, Ontario has retroactively secured additional funding through the 2025 Provincial DER Solar Rebate program!
This new rebate program launched by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has significantly enhanced the financial and environmental value proposition of Ontario’s largest commercial solar roof project at the Schuetz Container Systems Inc. Belleville facility. This site will be Ontario’s largest rooftop solar installation, offsetting more than 45% of its electricity usage and reducing annual emissions by 489.6 TC02e.
Combined with federal incentives – the 30% clean energy investment tax credit and the accelerated capital cost allowance – we are often seeing 65 to 70% of an entire project’s cost now being recovered in year one,” says Greg Sommers, President of EcoGrid Renewables Inc. “And as a provincial rebate, this program delivers a substantial cheque to our clients upon project completion.”
The rebate program, initially launched in 2024 in the Ottawa region to address critical grid demand constraints, proved so successful that it was expanded this year to commercial and industrial companies throughout Ontario.
