“We Love It Here”: Why Simple Life Homes Chose the Bay of Quinte

Since 2017, Simple Life Homes has manufactured prefabricated, environmentally healthy, high-performance, low-carbon homes from their facilities in Brighton, Ontario. Jeremy Clarke, founder and CEO of Simple Life Homes, combined his passion for waste diversion and building to launch the company. “We sell housing for humans,” says Clarke. “It’s intimate, important, and it can’t be itemized.”
With 11 skilled employees at their newly renovated off-site construction facilities, Simple Life Homes offers two ways to own a prefab home:
Developers use prefab components to save them the cost of designing builds upfront. Simple Life Homes provides the designs and prefab components to builder affiliates, shipping components to developers’ sites. If the affiliate wants something unique designed by an outside architect, Simple Life Homes can fabricate and ship those panels as well. Alternatively, home buyers choose from a catalogue of Simple Life Home designs, and the Simple Life Construction team manufactures and builds it for them from their Bay of Quinte-based facilities.
What Makes the Bay of Quinte Ideal for Simple Life Homes?
“We love it here,” says Clarke. “It’s close to home and where we want to live.” Clarke cites the region’s excellent lifestyle and quality of living and also praises the Brighton Industrial Park where they’re situated; “They give us everything we need and are making an effort to expand.”
The region also offers many opportunities for growth. Simple Life Homes is just an hour and a half east of Toronto on the 401 Highway, making it easy for them to build and deliver for home buyers within that market. “We also worked with Toronto Community Housing,” says Clarke; Simple Life Homes provided new panelling to go on the outside of brick buildings. This overcladding allowed residents to stay in place during recent building upgrades. The work provided Toronto Community Housing with their first low-carbon prefab retrofit.
There has also been interest from local economic development organizations and housing corporations to collaborate on housing projects.
