4 Reasons Manufacturer Anamet Loves the Bay of Quinte Region

January 31, 2025

Manufacturers thrive in the Bay of Quinte region, and Anamet is no exception. Anamet makes flexible electrical conduits and is fully supported by the ready labour, easy transportation, and industry co-operation that surrounds them in our region.

Anamet has 38 employees, over 20 of which run the machines on the plant floor. The company has been in Canada for 40 years. They have enjoyed the great lifestyle and economic development support of Frankford, City of Quinte West in the Bay of Quinte region since 2013.

1. A Bay of Quinte Success Story
John Richardson, a long-time employee of Anamet, took on the leadership of the Frankford facility this year. John loves living and operating in the Bay of Quinte region – and for good reason:

2. Co-operation and Support
John is just one of the large number of eastern Ontario business operators who are proud of their product. The Bay of Quinte region abounds with energy for entrepreneurship and growth.

Businesses in the region have a strong desire to support each other. As an example, John recently attended a Quinte Manufacturers Association meeting hosted by SCHUETZ in Belleville. It was an opportunity for businesses to share notes and encourage each other toward success.

3. Labour
The Bay of Quinte region contains a ready labour pool, “a great feature for Anamet,” according to John. A bonus is that labour in the region costs less than in a big city like Toronto.

Anamet’s machinists are trained on the job, and so they can arrive with relatively few skills. However, since Anamet is part of the region-wide wiring cable industry, it is also possible to find people already skilled in operations on the plant floor.

The region also enjoys the benefit of Loyalist College, which provides training resources for industries. John has used Loyalist College for consultation as well as for specialized courses for employees. An added bonus: campus is only 20 minutes away from the facility by car.

4. Transportation
Anamet’s proximity to Highway 401 – a significant artery connecting densely populated areas – allows them to send products daily to Toronto. Highway 401 gives Anamet’s easy access to other Ontario locations – Ontario accounts for about 45% of their sales – and to Quebec, which accounts for about 20% of sales.

5. Lifestyle
The Bay of Quinte region is good for Anamet, but John has other reasons to love it here. He has only just moved to the region from a larger city, and he notes that while he is still favourably close to Toronto, it is easier to get around in Bay of Quinte. Also, the cost of houses and facilities is lower, as are the taxes.
