3 Ways the Bay of Quinte Helps Schuetz Canada Succeed
October 15, 2024
What can the North East Industrial Park in Belleville in the Bay of Quinte region give a German-owned, global leader in the production of Intermediate Bulk Contains (IBCs) and plastic drums?
The answer is simple: success.
Based in Selters, Germany with North American headquarters in New Jersey, the family-owned Schuetz Canada established their first Canadian operations in the Bay of Quinte and now employs 65 employees. Here’s why Schuetz (or Schütz) chose the Bay of Quinte:
1. Awesome Organizations: The Quinte Manufacturers Association
On October 10, 2024, Schuetz Canada invited 40 members of the Quinte Manufacturers Association (QMA) to explore the modern facilities and cutting-edge manufacturing processes of their first Canadian site.
The QMA is an organization dedicated to helping local manufacturers “improve their capabilities, competitiveness, and sustainability”. One of the ways they do this is through plant tours like these and QMA’s ongoing initiative to foster stronger supply chain connections amongst local manufacturers. To that end, QMA’s members gained insight into Schuetz Canada’s advanced manufacturing technologies, and also had the chance to exchange feedback through QMA’s customized survey form to share what they saw, liked, and opportunities for improvement.
The Bay of Quinte thrives on manufacturing success and organizations like QMA help continue this success.
2. A+ Site Selection: Bay of Quinte’s North East Industrial Park
When Schuetz Canada came to the Bay of Quinte, they were able to find facilities that met their needs. The current Schuetz plant holds several key certifications which emphasize the company’s high quality and safety standards, like those for food-grade production.
Schuetz Canada acquired the former ExxonMobil Films plant in 2019, and invested in renovations to the facility throughout 2020, opening in 2021. With over 50 production and service locations worldwide and 7000 employees globally, Schuetz knows good manufacturing when they see it; that’s why Schuetz Canada chose the Bay of Quinte.
3. Workforce Wonders: Highly Skilled, Highly Dedicated, and Happy
Schuetz Canada needed employees who could:
- Work with advanced automation and robotics to keep up with their rapid cycle times and precision production
- Commit to sustainability practices like reuse and recycling to improve profits and lessen their environmental impact
- Adhere to rigorous product testing and quality assurance procedures to ensure their products meet the highest performance standards
The Schuetz team found all of this with the highly skilled, highly dedicated workforce in the Bay of Quinte and was able to continue to build a strong and supportive workplace culture for its employees and the Bay of Quinte community.
