QMA AI in Manufacturing Panel Discussion & Event
January 21, 2026
On January 20, the Quinte Manufacturers Association hosted a well-attended session of its Sharing and Learning Series titled “AI in Manufacturing: Turning Possibility into Productivity.” The panel brought together local manufacturers, technology providers, and funding partners to explore how artificial intelligence is already delivering practical value across manufacturing operations.
Panelists Dave Bowland (BCS Automation), Garry Shortt (Domtech), Sarah Wolters (The Machining Center), and Ken Morris (Proof Works AI Consulting) shared real-world examples demonstrating how AI is improving efficiency, reducing downtime, and supporting better decision-making. Applications discussed ranged from predictive maintenance, quality control, and digital twins, to generative AI tools supporting documentation, training, and workflow optimization.
Several presenters highlighted how AI adoption often begins with quick, targeted wins. One example showed how integrated AI tools enabled one plant manager personally save 300 hours annually by accelerating analysis, reporting, and documentation—time that could be redirected to higher-value work. Another example focused on AI-enabled quoting software that automates costing and pricing using customized logic aligned to in-house equipment and processes. By breaking quotes into individual components, generating CAD-ready files, and performing manufacturability checks, the solution delivered more consistent estimates, improved customer experience, and quote-time reductions of up to 75 percent.
Attendees also heard from representatives of the Business Development Bank of Canada, Ontario Centre for Innovation, FedDev Ontario, the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the National Research Council, and RBC. These organizations outlined funding programs available to help manufacturers de-risk AI adoption and accelerate implementation.
The session reinforced a clear message: AI is no longer a future concept. With practical applications, measurable returns, and strong support programs, manufacturers of all sizes can begin turning AI’s potential into productivity today.
