Add Additive Manufacturing to Your Production Process: A QMA and Loyalist College Discussion
February 2, 2024
Local manufacturers agree: additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, is a valuable tool when applied appropriately. In late 2023, the Quinte Economic Development Commission (QEDC) team attended the Quinte Manufacturers Association Sharing and Learning Series: Additive Manufacturing Panel Discussion. Gathering at Loyalist College’s Link Lounge with Brian Pennell, Loyalist College’s Industry Partnership Officer as moderator, were three local manufacturers:
- Kevin Groen of The Machining Center, a local Bay of Quinte high-precision machining shop specializing in customized automation solutions for regional manufacturers.
- Spencer Kull of Beclawat, a Bay of Quinte manufacturer of customized windows, serving the transportation sector, including rail passenger cars, locomotives, ships, and buses.
- James Vanberkel of Kennametal, which has a satellite plant in the Bay of Quinte and specializes in the manufacturing of wear-resistant machining components using stellite, nickel, and other metals.
Here’s what these experts had to say about adding 3D printing to your manufacturing process:
