June 7, 2017 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Quinte Economic Development Commission and Loyalist College hosted the Honourable Deborah Matthews, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development and Deputy Premier today, Wednesday June 7th, for a roundtable discussion about the Elevate Plus workforce development program. Elevate Plus, a local pilot project in Ontario, is funded by Employment Ontario, administered by the Quinte Economic Development Commission and delivered by Loyalist College. Participating in the discussion were Elevate Plus program graduates and employer partners Vantage Foods of Belleville and CB Freezers from Quinte West along with program partners Hastings County Social Services and Loyalist College.
Minister Matthews met with employers who were benefiting from accessing the skilled graduates from the Elevate Plus Program as well as the coaching and mentoring for their managers, supervisors and key influencers. Local graduates of the program outlined how the program gave them the skills, training and knowledge to gain full time employment in the local food processing and manufacturing sectors.

The long term partnership between Quinte Economic Development Commission and Loyalist College is once again proving to be an effective model for supporting our businesses and providing jobs for people by matching employer needs with the newly trained skilled workers.” Noted Chris King, CEO Quinte Economic Development Commission.
Chuck O’Malley, with Loyalist Training and Knowledge Centre, stated “Advancing change, creating hope and building resilience are the cornerstone principles of this collaborative, community based workforce development strategy, which uses an integrated experiential learning platform ideal for adults seeking employment in our growing manufacturing sector.”
About Elevate Plus
The Elevate Plus Training Program is part of Provincial pilot project looking for sector based solutions that better align skills training and pre-employment preparation with employer’s needs. Elevate Plus aims to both support longer term unemployed and vulnerable Ontarians to access sustainable employment while supporting workforce development in the manufacturing and food processing sectors.
The program is 6 week training program offered at no cost to unemployed adults 18+. The program is funded by Employment Ontario.
