March 28, 2014
March 26, 2014 marks the 50th Year Anniversary of Cascades! Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibres.
The Bay of Quinte Region is home to two divisions of Cascades, Norampac Inc. Belleville as well as Norampac Inc. Trenton. The Norampac Belleville facility employs approximately 80 full time employees. It is a designer, and manufacturer, of corrugated containers. The Norampac Trenton facility manufactures corrugated medium paper and employs approximately 130 people.
From a manufacturer of primarily paper and cartonboard, the Corporation has emerged as the largest collector of recyclable materials in Canada, as well as one of the major converters of corrugated packaging products, folding cartons, tissue papers and specialty products in North America. Cascades holds a 35% interest in Boralex Inc. and close to 58% interest in the Italian company Reno De Medici.
On March 26, 2014, Cascades’ official birthday, all of the Company’s one hundred or so units will be invited to celebrate the historic event with their employees. A morning ceremony will take place in Kingsey Falls at the very first Cascades mill to highlight its half century of existence. In the evening, brothers Bernard, Laurent and Alain Lemaire, founders of Cascades, and Mario Plourde, current President and Chief Executive Office, will pay tribute to all of the Company’s Builders. Customers, suppliers, financial partners and the mill’s original employees will be invited to a gala in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Cascades’ success.
