Buy An Inexpensive Dream Home? Bay of Quinte’s Affordable Housing
The truth is, it’s easy to buy a home you’ll love, close to amenities you want in the Bay of Quinte: from good schools, to multiple recreation sites (for young families, professionals and ‘Empty-Nesters’), to hundreds of waterfront kilometres.
Want to hear the really good news? You’ll pay a fraction of the price for a large home on a nice parcel of land in the Bay of Quinte than you would in Toronto or Ottawa.
As of December 2012, you can buy a single detached home with 3 or more bedrooms, and 1 or more bathrooms for less than $200 000. Indeed, a significant number of active families already have. Statistics Canada reports twice as many people in the Bay of Quinte region buy their homes rather than rent.
A quick search on Quinte MLS shows that the majority of all homes for sale are between $180 000 – $360 000. Fewer than 1% of people in the Bay of Quinte’s 223,000 regional population do not have their own room. The average number of rooms in homes is more than six (reported in 2011). So it’s easier to have room to expand your family, or create an in-house office in the Bay of Quinte.
New homes are going up all the time. And the number of occupied homes needing repair or reconstruction in the Bay of Quinte is low: between 7-9%, so you’re likely to buy a modern, well-kept home, when you relocate.
Apartment buildings are typically less than five stories, too, so you won’t have to worry about obstructed views.
